I had not googled my name in a while so when this task got introduced I was nervous to see my online presence! The very first and one of the only connections I found to myself was a picture of me in the local newspaper in 2014. A middle school club I was apart of had done a clothing drive and food drive getting us featured in the news and now this lovely picture (included below) is featured on the internet!
Something I found interesting from googling me name was that pictures of athletic teams of my high school showed up in the image section of google. Though I was not involved with any of the teams nor any athletics at my school, my name was connected to these images. I wanted to further look into why my name is connected to the images. I clicked on the images which brought me to my high schools’ social media and websites where neither my name or social media were ever tagged or mentioned.
The only other link to my name I discovered was to my instagram via an instagram post I am tagged in. The post I am tagged in is my friend’s account which is public. I found this very odd seeing as I am tagged in other posts of public media pages yet this is the only one the surfaces upon googling my name. This led me to wonder if using my personal device to do this search was creating bias or connecting to accounts and platforms I have signed into. I would be interested to use a non personal device and see if what shows up is different.
