On Saturday I challenged the gluten intolerance enzyme pill and had a day of gorging on gluten full treats and meals. On reflection, a better idea would have been to take the pills and start with only a small amount of gluten then expand into eating a “normal” amount in a day. Perhaps another time I could do this as a better experiment and test of the pill. However, I was pretty surprised by the decrease in reaction symptoms I had with one pill after eating gluten in comparison to a normal reaction I would have.
I started the day strong with a doughy gluten filled cinnamon bun which was amazing! I waited until I got hungry around noon before going out for some Italian thin crust pizza. Gluten free pizza crust does not compare to this pizza crust. The whole day I was feeling pretty nervous in anticipation for a reaction but I lasted until about 4 or 5 when I started feeling a little off. I ended up having pasta for dinner and wasn’t feeling my normal stomach pains and extreme bloating as I would without the pill.
I was feeling really impressed with how the pills illuminated my symptoms for the whole day. However, the next morning was a different story. I woke up with pretty bad stomach cramps and bloating which lasted through most of the morning. The rash I used to get appeared very prominently on my chin and around my mouth and this weirdly ended up lasting quite a few days.
I think the pill would have worked a lot better if I took another one before I went to bed or even took them a few days leading up to the day of eating gluten. I was surprised with how well they held off my symptoms for the day and with additional enzyme aid I see a lot of potential in these pills.
